Whether you manage a golf course, a wildlife sanctuary, or are
planning a sub-division one of the most important considerations
is the blending of your activities with wildlife and the perpetuation
of wildlife habitat. One of the easiest animal groups to use as
a measure of success is birds. Whether your census breeding species
or over-wintering numbers you can learn a great deal about the
inter-relationship of plants and animals at your site:
- I can help golf course managers establish a more bird-friendly
course layout using bird boxes and recommending planting. Purple
Martins, Tree Swallows, Eastern Bluebirds, Northern Flicker,
and Screech Owls can be attracted to nesting boxes. The course
guide can be developed to include nature notes as well as distances
and hole layout sketches.
- Many developers are looking to understand their land prior
to submitting plans to a Planning Board or Commission. Conversely
many Planning Boards are looking for more natural history information
on a parcel that is proposed for development. I can develop
lists of plants and animals that use a site in any season or
throughout the year.
